Happy Valentine’s Day Suckas!! My gift to you is not making a pun about this ad.
But I will say that if you’re alone with a sausage on Valentine’s Day, and it’s not a “sausage”, then you might need to re-evaluate a few things. No matter how romantic heart disease sounds, just say no to lonely sausagefests.
I’m currently working on ads for a jeweler so I’ve been looking at some similar ads in the category, and this is one of the better contemporary ones that I’ve seen. The direction is beautiful and it actually has an idea behind it unlike some competing jewelry brands which just rely heavily on pretty close-up shots of their models. I checked out some of the other Pandora ads, but they weren’t nearly as good as this one, so I’m not sure how well it worked as an on-going campaign.
‘Tan Hong Ming in Love’ Petronas - Yasmin Ahmad, Leo Burnett
As I may have mentioned before, I’m currently doing an internship at DraftFCB in Kuala Lumpur. One of the names that keeps cropping up is Yasmin Ahmad, a phenomenal Malaysian writer and director who started out her ad career at Ogilvy and went on to become Executive CD at Leo Burnett in KL.
Yasmin produced a series of ads for petrol giant, Petronas. Although Yasmin passed away in 2009, her ads live on and continue to move people all over the world. She had an incredible gift for writing uniquely touching, memorable ads, that transcended the cultural boundaries that have divided the country.
After her passing the agency attempted to continue to produce ads of this quality but the ads didn’t resonate in the same way— which goes to show you that a great creative can make all the difference, not just for the brand but for the people who watch and are moved by the writing. I’ll be sharing a few more of her ads in the coming week for you all to enjoy (and possibly cry over).
